Hello!

I'm Donna Edison.

Licensed massage therapist, and owner of Edison Massage Therapy.

My mission is pretty simple: TO MAKE LIFE MORE ENJOYABLE FOR BUSY PEOPLE.

As a wife and busy mom of two, I understand that the demands of life can be overwhelming and often times it can lead to pain and stress. When we ignore those symptoms, we are unable to be fully present in the most important areas of our lives.

I’ve been a massage therapist since January 2010. After attending massage school on a whim, I realized I have a natural gift for providing people with a truly therapeutic experience. It’s not just about massaging bodies, it’s about providing a knowledgeable touch and a safe place to decompress, so that our bodies can heal on a deeper level.

I have served an incredible number of people in North Carolina since beginning my career as a massage therapist. Many of my regular clients (with the okay from their doctor) have been able to discontinue their pain and anxiety medication. Some of them have been able to avoid surgery while working with me.

As Gaston County’s specialist in upper body pain and stress relief my goal is to help busy people hurt less, get better sleep and be able to focus on their day with a sense of calm and productivity. The mind and body are one unit and both need to be in balance to meet these goals.

In addition to my massage therapy licenses, I am certified in medical and pediatric massage. I also have trained in Oncology Massage.

It makes me so happy to be able to help families enjoy their lives in a new way; feeling free to be their true self again.

In addition to my massage therapy practice, I also enjoy reading fiction books. My hobbies include raising cattle (for pets-not meat), riding four-wheelers and going on the lake in the summer months. When I'm not in giving massages, I'm spending time with my two small children and husband, 3 dogs and a cat.  Jesus is my jam and I really enjoy praise and worship music.

FAQs

It's completely normal to have some questions if it's you first massage with me. Below are my most frequently asked questions. I'm always willing to chat with you to answer anything you want to know or are concerned about.

Does massage hurt?

The short answer is no!

Sometimes, areas of existing pain or tension can be tender or sore during your massage. However, it should not be painful.  Before your session, we will discus your ideal pressure and I will work to keep this pressure at this level. Honest communication is important before, during and after each session so that I can ensure you are always comfortable.

Do I have to undress during my massage?

I will ask you to undress to your comfort level.

There are often times that I will need access to your back, without the restriction of clothing. However, the massage techniques may be modified if you are not comfortable removing your top. I will always have a sheet (and blanket when your cold) as a covering. Any area that I am not work on will be covered. It is against the law for you not to be draped (with a covering) during your session.  No private areas will EVER be exposed or touched.

How often should I get a massage?

This depends on your initial goal and progress.

When you have a specific goal for your pain/stress relief, typically you can expect to need more frequent sessions.  You would not go to the gym once or twice and expect to see astonishing results. Massage is similar in this way.  Proceeding each session you will feel greater results.  Our bodies tend to be stubborn when you have been in pain for sometime.  As you get closer to your goal, we can space your session out and get you on a maintenance plan so that your issues don't return in full force.

Are there any conditions that would keep me from getting a massage?

Typically, with modifications massage is safe for everyone.

There are usually no conditions that keeps you from getting a massage, in general, unless you Doctor says otherwise. Some condition may require modifications in technique or pressure. There may be times when is it necessary to skip focus work and gear the session towards relaxation.  If your doctor states that massage is not safe for you and you are still interested in a session, I am always open to chatting with your doctor to ask for clearance with modifications.

What should I do during my massage?

Relax and be present.

You are encouraged to relax and focus on your breath and notice your body letting go. Being fully present, rather than thinking about your day and future activities, will help you get the most out of your massage session.  Communicating any discomfort, rather it be the temperature of the room, pressure, a need for water or a music change will also help me to provide the best experience for you.
